Library Events for the week of June 19 - 25

Monday, June 19, 2017

MONDAY, JUNE 19th

10:00 AM – Storytime – Terrific 2’s and 3’s – For children from 18 to 36 months, with a caregiver. Come in and hear a story, sing a song and have some fun!

12:15 PM – Mah Jongg – Get together for the ever challenging game of Mah Jongg!

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM – Knitters’ Group – We now have two options for knit and crochet enthusiasts! Join the group at the library for knitting, crocheting, and conversation.

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM – Tail Waggin’ Tutors – Read aloud to a certified therapy dog! It helps build reading skills and confidence. Registration is required. Please call the library or stop by to sign up for a 10-minute time slot. Spots are filling up fast! For children in grades K to 6. Supports PA Forward's Basic Literacy.

7:00 PM – Socrates’ Café – Join in the conversation, be it political, religious or whatever comes to mind. Share your thoughts, experiences and viewpoints while meeting new people.

TUESDAY, JUNE 20th

10:00 AM – Storytime – Playful Pre-School – For children ages 3 and up with a caregiver. Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, and fun!

3:30 PM – 5:30 PM – Teen Time – Teens in grades 6 to 12 are welcome to come to the library for Teen Time every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. Play trivia, eat snacks, and hang out! Tentative Monthly Schedule: 1st Tuesday: Movie, 2nd Tuesday: Art/Craft, 3rd Tuesday: Ping Pong, 4th Tuesday: Wii games we're always open to teen suggestions for activities!

7:00 PM – The Amazing Mr. Q – Join the Amazing Mr. Q for his unique blend of storytelling, magic, and comedy. For children of all ages. No registration required.

7:00 PM – Tech Drop-In – Bring your electronic device to the library and get help! Our Reference Librarian Stephanie will be here to answer any technical questions. No registration required. Or, if you you prefer, you may also make a private appointment for technical help. Call the library to schedule a 30-60 minute session with Stephanie, held on weekdays only. Supports PA Forward's Information Literacy.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21st

11:00 AM – Pinochle Group – A new card group is forming at the library. Drop in to play!

12:15 PM – Mah Jongg – Get together for the ever challenging game of Mah Jongg!

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Lego Club – For children ages 4 and up, caregiver must be present. Come in and build your creation from our collection of Legos! We will display it on our shelves!

4:00 PM – Ready, Set, Code! – Dive into the ideas behind coding without even using a computer! Expand your computational thinking skills with hands-on activities that relate to programming, algorithms, commands, variables, and crowdsourcing. Suggested for ages 6 to 10. No registration required. Each session will focus on different topics, but no previous attendance is required. Come to any session you are able! Supports PA Forward's Information Literacy.

6:30 PM – Knit Night – Join the knitting group at the library for knitting, crocheting, and conversation.

THURSDAY, JUNE 22nd

10:00 AM – Storytime – Wonderful 1’s – For children from birth to 24 months and caregiver. Stories, music and fun!

12:15 PM – Mah Jongg – Join in on the challenging game of Mah Jongg!

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM – Yo-Yo Club – Interested in yo-yoing or want to learn how? Join other children and teens to discover yo-yo tips and tricks in this weekly club.

4:00 PM – Eureka! The Inventor’s Lab – Explore the world of inventing! Hear stories about famous breakthroughs, get inspired, and express your creativity by making your own inventions. All supplies provided. Suggested for ages 7 to 11. No registration required. Each session will focus on different topics, but no previous attendance is required. Come to any session you are able! Supports PA Forward's Civic and Social Literacy.

6:30 PM – 8:00 PM – Teen Drop-in – Teens in grades 6 to 12 are welcome to drop in at the library on Thursday evenings to hang out with other teens and play games.

7:00 PM – Adult Book Club – The fourth Thursday* of each month at 7:00 PM * unless a Holiday. New members are always welcome! For more information, call the library at 215-836-5300. June 2017's book selection is The Fifth Wave by Richard Yancey. We will meet at the library on June 22nd.  Grab a copy and come in to discuss!

FRIDAY, JUNE 23rd

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM – Duplo Play Day – Drop in to build with our collection of Duplos! Recommended for ages 2 and up.

1:30 PM – 3:30 PM – Bridge – Play the challenging card game of bridge at the library. Newcomers with previous knowledge of the game are welcome.

2:00 PM – Movie Matinee – Closer To The Moon – In 1959 Bucharest, 5 high ranking Jewish members of the Communist party staged a bank heist that baffled the authorities.  After being captured and sentenced to death, they are given one last punishment: reenact the heist for the benefit of a Communist propaganda film. Based on true events!

SATURDAY, JUNE 24th – Library Hours 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

SUNDAY, JUNE 25th – Library Hours 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

1:30 PM – Scrabble Group – Drop in to play the fun and challenging word game of Scrabble!
