- About Us
The placement of portable basketball standards along the curb line creates a safety hazard for pedestrians and motor vehicle traffic. They also encourage young children to play in the public roadway where they may be struck by passing vehicles. Basketball standards can also topple in high winds and cause damage to people or property.
During the fall and winter seasons in particular, portable basketball standards prohibit the department of public works from completely clearing leaves and snow from along the curb line.
Section 92-15 of the Springfield Township Code prohibits any object or obstruction from being placed within the boundaries of the public street or right of way. The public right of way includes the street, curb line and sidewalk area. Therefore, if you have a portable basketball standard or other object located within the public right of way, please re-locate it to your driveway or other location outside of the public right of way.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
