Just because the label from the manufacturer says that their wipes are flushable doesn’t mean they will break down like toilet paper does. As such, Springfield Township would like to remind residents not to flush toilet paper substitutes during coronavirus crisis.
Check out the following television news article from Dallas Texas on flushable wipes.
“Public works officials all across the country are on the lookout for an increase in system backups because of the shortage of toilet paper due to panic-buying,” Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority (BCWSA) spokesman Patrick Cleary said. “Wipes and other items not meant for the sewage system can cause lines to back up. So, the recommendation is trash it, don’t flush it."
Cleary added that keeping the sewage lines open is vital for ensuring proper water treatment and for providing clean water to all BCWSA customers.
Springfield Township residents can call BCWSA's 24 hour manned emergency phone number (215-343-3946) with any identified sewer breaks or overflows.
