- About Us
It is the goal of the Park and Recreation Advisory Board to enrich the lives of our residents through recreation, enhancing natural beauty and by maintaining a safe, clean environment. We consistently strive to meet the best interests of the community in short term as well as long term goals. Our Sports Programs are based on the fact that children perform best in a positive, fun, learning environment.

Turf Treatment Policy
The passive recreation areas within all Springfield Township parklands do not receive any form of chemical or organic-based lawn fertilization or weed control. However, the athletic fields at specified parks do receive periodic turf treatment in order to prevent bare spots and weeds that can create hazards and cause injury. The Parks and Recreation Department, in consultation with the local Environmental Advisory Commission, has adopted the following turf policy for athletic fields:
Early Spring - chemical pre-emergent treatment to prevent crabgrass and weeds; organic fertilization
Late Spring - Organic fertilization; spot-treat weeds as needed
Summer - Organic fertilization; spot-treat weeds as needed
Fall - Organic fertilization; spot treat weeds as needed; aeration and overseed as needed
Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemical and organic materials are found here:
BARRICADE- pre-emergent herbicide for crabgrass and weeds (applied in early Spring)
MOST- organic fertilizer to promote healthy turf (applied four times a year)
RIVERDALE ESCALADE- herbicide mixture used to spot-treat weeds as needed
HONCHO PLUS - herbicide mixture utilized for riparian buffer preparation
