Call for Volunteers

Springfield Township will be partnering with the Environmental Advisory Commission and Delaware River Keepers for a native planting event at Mermaid Park in Wyndmoor, on Saturday October 30th from 8:30 am-12:30pm. Volunteers from the community are invited and encouraged to join the planting efforts.

This planting is part of the Mermaid Park Stream and Habitat Restoration Project, funded in part by the Township and TreeVitalize grant. Volunteers should dress in layers and be prepared for planting. Make sure to wear long pants and old shoes/sneakers or work boots. We’ll hold the event rain or shine.

Registration is not required, but is appreciated!

The new “vegetated riparian buffer” will improve water quality, reduce flooding and provide the natural habitat of the park. This planting is also part of a larger Township initiative to restore the stream and habitat of Mermaid Park with most of the work planned for spring 2022.
