Oreland Lions 4th of July Parade
The annual Oreland Independence Day Parade will move forward as scheduled on Saturday despite forecasted high temperatures, however, we encourage residents to prioritize their health and safety throughout the celebration.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. on July 4, starting at Twining Road and Wischman Avenue in Upper Dublin Township before crossing into Springfield Township and concluding at Marlow Field around 11:30 a.m. The event will feature community organizations, performances, and patriotic festivities celebrating Independence Day, as well as the nation's 250th anniversary with commemorative flags distributed to attendees.
Prioritize Safety
With extreme heat expected, residents are encouraged to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and sports drinks while avoiding alcohol, which can contribute to dehydration. Attendees are also advised to bring their own shade structures, such as umbrellas or pop-up tents, to help limit sun exposure. Individuals with underlying health conditions, older adults, and others who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses should consider whether attending the parade is appropriate given the weather conditions.
For those without access to their own shade, the Oreland Fire Company will provide cooling resources along the parade route, including shade tents and a misting station to help spectators stay comfortable. Springfield Township encourages businesses and homeowners along the parade route to assist anyone who may be experiencing heat-related distress by opening their air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
We encourage everyone attending the parade to watch for signs of heat exhaustion, check on family members and neighbors, and seek shade or medical attention if needed. With proper preparation and community support, residents can safely enjoy this Independence Day tradition.
